Only if it agrees with my way of life…

Are you as horrified as I am about how some parts of this great country of ours is quickly regressing? We are falling back into the days of open discrimination and pure hatred. Two examples that stood out to me today are:

1. the Arizona Immigration Law SB 1070
2. A Catholic school in Colorado denying a preschooler admission because he has two moms.

I am going to try to keep this very brief.
Let’s start with Arizona. The Governor signed a bill stating police are to stop anyone they believe may be an illegal immigrant and demand they provide papers proving they are in the U.S. legally. If they cannot provide papers, but they are a U.S. citizen, this is a state crime which will be enforced by a monetary fine. The Governor says the law is not to racially profiling. Seriously? When the Governor was asked what an illegal immigrant looked like, she didn’t know. Watch out anyone with an accent. Better keep your papers on you at all times.

Now, over to Boulder, Colorado where a preschooler was not allowed to re-enroll because his moms are lesbians. As noted in the Colorado Daily, “No person shall be admitted as a student in any Catholic school unless that person and his/her parent(s) subscribe to the school’s philosophy and agree to abide by the educational policies and regulations of the school and Archdiocese”.

Wait, so lesbians are out but sexually abusive priests are ok? As noted by the Young Turks, what about divorced parents? Are they allowed to enroll their children? I’m guessing if they eliminated all the parents who do not “subscribe to the school’s philosophy and agree to abide by the educational policies and regulations of the school and Archdiocese” they will have a really small attendance.

We are falling behind, people. Let’s not let them put us in little boxes. What ever happened to the greater good for all? The all seems to be turning into the “all” that are just like me.

“No person shall be admitted as a student in any Catholic school unless that person and his/her parent(s) subscribe to the school’s philosophy and agree to abide by the educational policies and regulations of the school and Archdiocese,” the statement said.

Best of the Left

Two weeks ago I discovered a new, well new for me, podcast. I Love It. It’s called Best of the Left. Best of the Left  highlights clips from some of my favorite shows such as Rachel Maddow, the Daily Show, the Young Turks, the Colbert Report, and the Onion to name a few. Not only does Best of the Left capture great clips it also highlights some groovy music in between segments with artists such as the Arctic Monkeys, Cake, Lou Reed, and Coldplay.  This is such a win-win situation.

Not having a tv or not wanting to find time to watch 5 hours of shows a day online, this podcast nicely sums up some great clips from awesome sources and encourages me to bob my head and tap my feet while typing away at my desk at work.

Currently new episodes are released on Wednesdays and Fridays, and starting in March there is going to be a third show added each week.  So if you are like me and LOVE the above mentioned programs, and to occasionally bob your head or tap your feet, I strongly suggest you check out Best of the Left.
