Should any states constitution promote discrimination based on religion?

I am sure your answer is no. Then why are there 30 states that have recently added amendments based on religious beliefs alone?

Tomorrow in North Carolina voters will go to the polls and decide if they want to include in their state constitution a ban on same-sex marriage. This ban also includes civil unions and domestic partnerships. The only argument for the ban is based 100% on peoples religious beliefs.

This is not the history of our country. Our country was founded on Freedom of Religion. Many American’s moved to this great country so as to NOT be persecuted based on their religious beliefs. The idea is that people should be able to believe whatever they want, but that those religious beliefs should not be used to condemn their fellow Americans.

Two clauses in the First Amendment guarantee freedom of religion. The establishment clause prohibits the government from passing legislation to establish an official religion or preferring one religion over another. It enforces the “separation of church and state.”

When you write a law into the constitution that is based 100% on people’s religious beliefs you violate the very law that this country was founded upon. In essence you are promoting one religion over all others.

Even more clear is the 14th amendment which clearly states “No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

This isn’t the first time laws have been enacted based on religious bias. Other laws include, but are not limited to…

The very people who want limited government will be the ones who vote for Government interference based on religious beliefs. Voting yes for Amendment 1 is voting against the U.S. Constitution and voting for discrimination.


Herman Cain – In Bed with the Koch Brothers…

Herman Cain – Is Happily supported by the billionaire Libertarian Koch Brothers. The Koch Brothers are anti regulation, anti taxes, anti unions and are 100% for their increased wealth.

Over the last 4 years the Koch Brothers wealth has increased by Billions, while at the same time reducing the number of Americans they employee by over 10,000.

So what does this relationship say about Herman Cain? Should he be elected, with the Koch Brothers in his pocket, what does this say about the future of our country?

How are the Koch Brothers so rich? They own a lot…

The rich want higher taxes???

Higher Taxes For The Rich: Fair Or Warfare?

As reported by some 200 millionaires do. There is actually a group of rich people out there who believe since they have more, in this tough economy, those that can pay more should.

Andy Shallal, a D.C.-area restaurateur puts it like this (as taken from the article on He’d like to see more progressive tax laws in place to bridge the gap between the haves and have-nots “so that we don’t have this potential for this possible class warfare that’s always bubbling beneath the surface in this country.”

It’s nice to know that not all rich people are complete douche bags.

of course this headline on caught my eye. Is spending $500,000 of tax payer money to defend a hateful law really the direction this country should take? How does this “create jobs”. The lawyers already have a job.

Before you blame the Democrats…

Before you blame the Democrats for the potential government shutdown. You need to note, as best put by Michael Gerson in his article in the Washington Post, On the budget, Obama has Republicans cornered. He wrote, “By accepting $33 billion in cuts for the remainder of 2011, Obama has taken the middle ground and exploited a major division within the Republican coalition.”

So you tell me who is not willing to compromise to get the budget finalized?

Koch Brother’s are back at it again… home


You may remember my post back in October about the billion dollar Koch (pronounced Coke) brother’s being the money behind the Tea Party. If not I highly recommend you read it, The Tea Party is NOT a Grassroots Organization. At least check out the cool, easy to read chart.

Well the Koch Brothers at back at it again, in full force. As read today on, Conservative high-rollers gather to plot strategy, the Koch brothers sponsored a two day event to try to figure out how to put the GOP in the white house in 2012. So much for the voice of the “people”.

Even the British can see though the “Tea Party”.  As written in The Independent World, “Most organisations which benefit from the Kochs’ largesse have one thing in common: they help advance an unflinching brand of libertarian conservatism. Some lobby against environmental regulation, or seek to undermine public perception of the threat of climate change, others battle taxes, trade unions and Barack Obama’s healthcare reforms.
Many play a crucial role in organising the Tea Party, the headline-prone right-wing movement which likes to tout its “grass-roots” credentials.”

Once again, thanks to the conservative led Supreme Court ruling known as Citizens United, the rich will have an opportunity to over shout the middle class and poor. Are you prepared to let billionaires shape our political landscape? I sure as hell am not.

Let’s not forget to use sound judgment people. Listen to your gut, it speaks the truth.

An end to Don’t Ask Don’t Tell…”When I was in the military they gave me a medal…

I heard a quote on Best Of The Left last week that really caught my attention. It was from the Tombstone of Leonard Matlovich. It reads:

“When I was in the military they gave me a medal for killing two men and a discharge for loving one.”

This quote puts Don’t Ask Don’t Tell into its true context.
