Support Companies that support equality.
Every year, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) — America’s largest civil rights organization, publishes the HRC Corporate Equality Index. You can find it online at HRC.org. To put it simply – the Corporate Equality Index rates corporations based on their current employee benefits & policies, their advertising support of the lgbt community, and whether or not they’re involved in anti-lgbt activities.
So which organizations should you be supporting and which should you avoid? Here are a few:
The Good Companies:
- Bank of America
- Wal-Mart (this company – you should have avoided way before this list came out)
- Exxon Mobil
I recommend you go to the HRC.org site for a complete listing and to keep up to date on what is happening in the lgbt community. On HRC’s website, you can search a particular company and see what their rating is.
As advocates for the lgbt community, it is important that we support organizations that stand for equality. It is just as important that we DO NOT support companies that do not stand for equality.
Can you stick by this concept?
